To all who linger here for a moment I say, thank you; and, I am honored you have chosen to share a bit of time together with me. Hopefully, in return, I can give you a smile or two, a thought to ponder, a story, a viewpoint, a picture of our life here on the farm, a momentary diversion, or some other thing that gives us a shared experience. To me, sharing my life and thoughts with you is a delight. May it be so to you as well.
Throughout my life, I have valued creativity and have lived a life filled with it. As well, all my life has been filled with singing. Most things that happen in my life come to me accompanied by a melody of some sort, a song sung or learned some other time that springs to my mind at the moment, or just me making up a melody with words as an outgrowth of my emotion. I see things in life in a very color-filled way and I believe the old adage that says variety is the spice of life. For to me, life is filled with more spice and variety than one soul can experience in a lifetime. So each day is an opportunity to discover, to learn, and to experience even something felt before, anew. I live out in nature a lot of my time and I am constantly in awe of God's creation, its diversity and wonder.
And so it was today, as I watched our new lambs walk out of their lambing jugs for the first time. Their initial reaction was to leap for joy, to jump and run and bounce around. It was absolutely lovely to see! Such abandonment to expression! I laughed and sang the song "The Joint is Jumpin" as they played and ran between the legs of mom and the other ewes. their joy was so infectious that I danced a little jig with them!
Let me explain: We set up these special pens (called lambing jugs) for the ewe during labor and for the birth of the lambs. Then we keep them together in there for awhile to ensure the bonding experience between mother and child. I almost hated to let those little toes and noses and spindly legs and small bodies out into the comparatively dangerous "outside of the pen" world; but nature must continue moving onward. The adventure happened without mishap, however I will be glad to get them back into the safety of the pen for the night. But soon they will run with the flock outside. They will add their voice to nature's concert and we will sing together out in creation as well as in the barn. Here's to life! What a wonder!
